That's right: you can essentially take an invisible elevator right to the top of a mountain. Of course, Tears of the Kingdom will likely have high places that can't be so conveniently accessed, but any geographic feature with a cave (and no doubt many a dungeon) lets Link skip the climbing theatrics entirely.
Shield surfing is a fast and fun way to traverse Hyrule’s hills and mountains, but as with mining it comes with a price. Like weapons, shields also come with their own durability, and shield surfing in Breath of the Wild is an activity that will damage them. A dedicated Surf Board in Tears of the Kingdom would allow players to shred the slopes without fear of leaving themselves undefended in the event of a monster attack. Catching insects, lizards and other small critters in Breath of the Wild is a matter of careful movements and quick reflexes, as stealth is a key factor in not scaring the small animals away. Meanwhile, the Bug Net is a familiar Zelda tool that nevertheless failed to make it into BOTW . Infamously a Zelda item capable of reflecting magic , its intended use is naturally to help Link capture small creatures, typically insects, for a variety of purposes. Part of me wants to believe that it’s a past iteration of Link or a version of Ganon from before darkness corrupted him. Zelda Tears of The Kingdom money guide is also seen with shorter hair and wielding the Sheikah Slate in new character art, convincing me further that she is not only saved by Link’s new power, but comes to play a far more prominent role in the full adventure. Whatever evil they face, she is convinced it can’t be stopped, but is now far more than a passive bystander holding off evil as her companion does all the work. Both characters are given more agency here, which should allow Tears of the Kingdom to breach narrative boundaries this series has never toyed with before.
Now, the recent release of an official Tears of the Kingdom gameplay teaser shows exactly how Link will face the challenges Ganon throws him this time around. Although nobody will know for sure how things play out in Hyrule until it releases, there are a couple of enticing details the trailer hints at.
Tears of the Kingdom has already been shown to build upon the world created in BOTW in numerous ways. Although much of the main plot line is being kept under wraps, trailers for TOTK have shown new vehicles and weapons being used by Link to explore both the land of Hyrule and the sky above it. BOTW placed great emphasis on foraging for equipment, as well as utilizing a durability system. Consequently, there were few permanent additions to Link’s inventory. Although the difficulty is subjective and everyone finds different things challenging, many fans were able to relate to the second phase being more like an interactive cut-scene than an actual fight if the player knows how to avoid getting hit. An ancient evil has once again descended upon Hyrule, awakening a forgotten civilization in the sky and imbuing the land’s creatures with newfound power and aggression that will likely tear everything asunder. The stakes are high, with Hyrule Castle crumbling away into dust as red streaks of energy bubble and burst into the landscape. I’m not even sure if Ganon is the one talking in the trailer’s opening seconds, convinced Nintendo is throwing out a red herring as the previous calamity prepares to play a far more pivotal role in the upcoming story.
